The Boat Exhibition of Breidafjordur at Reykholar was founded on the 31st of August 2006 by people interested in boats and boatbuilding. The emphasis of the exhibition will be on the clink built boat, its story and development around Breidafjordur as well as in other regions of Iceland, its form and seafaring ability depending on its functional role in each region. At the Boat Exhibition at Reykholar a building of a boat will be shown from the keel to the reeling, the ironwork, the sail making and making of the mast and oars. Information on sailing routes and on mountains as guiding marks around Breidafjordur, hay transportation, sailing to church, the fish banks, sailing winds and superstition connected with sailing will also be presented. Of course one of the main roles of the exhibition is to preserve old boats and present them. Relations with schools and youth-centers around the country will be established with the aim of teaching boat building.
